#Day three of the 38th Hugh Campbell Invitational featured the debut of defending champions, the first appearance for Family Island teams and also the first elimination of this year’s event.
#Doris Johnson Mystic Marlins – 36
#CR Walker Knights – 28
#Fresh off of their gruelling three game GSSSA triumph over the CI Gibson Rattlers, the Mystic Marlins continued their momentum with a win in their tournament debut.
#Without GSSSA championship MVP Richard Lowe in the lineup, the Mystic Marlins’ offence struggled for much of the afternoon but limited the Knights to just two field goals in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
#Joshua Burrows led Doris Johnson with a game high 15 points, Matthew Saunders scored six and Jaden Woodsode scored five with a team high nine rebounds.
#Kemron Gray led the Knights with nine points.
#Doris Johnson took an early 9-3 lead at the end of the first quarter but led just 13-10 at the half.
#The upset-minded Knights tied the game at 16 in the third and trailed by just four headed into the fourth.
#Gateway Academy Eagles – 53
#Mt Carmel Cavaliers – 49
#Bimini’s Eagles opened the event with a win as they begin their trek toward tournament contention.
#Valdez Edgecombe finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds, junior national team player Chester McPhee scored 10 and Javaite Curry scored eight.
#Shemar Easy led Mt Carmel with a game high 22 points, Anatol Pierre finished with 11 points and 17 rebounds and Jayden Johnson scored nine.
#Mt Carmel suffered their first loss after a 54-44 win over the Kingsway Saints.
#CV Bethel Stingrays – 39
#Kingsway Academy Saints – 35
#The Saints were ousted from the field in our first elimination game of this year’s tournament.
#The Stingrays were led by a pair of near double doubles from Donte Whyms with nine points and 13 rebounds while Lazzaro Thompson finished with eight points and 11 rebounds.
#Devon Taylor also scored eight.
#Jermaine Adderley led the Saints with nine points and 12 rebounds, Shabazz Hinds scored eight and Dacoda Johnson finished with seven.
#CV Bethel suffered an opening round loss to the CC Sweeting Cobras, 43-37.
#Anatol Rodgers Timberwolves – 44
#Jack Hayward Wildcats – 20
#Davito McIntosh shot 6-10 from the field en route to a game high 13 points to lead the T’Wolves to their second win of the tournament.
#Kevin Thompson scored nine while Chadrack Giles and Nicholas Jones each finished with six.
#Yarek Russell (11 points) and Ashford Ferguson (eight points) were the only Wildcats to score field goals on the night.
#It was the second consecutive blowout win for the Timberwolves after a 51-31 win over the RM Bailey Pacers in their tournament debut.
#In other games on last night’s schedule, the Jordan Prince Williams Falcons took on the Eight Mile Rock Bluejays, the St George’s Jaguars faced the BAISS champions Queen’s College Comets and the Sunland Stingers took on the Government High School Magic.
