The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has officially postponed Tokyo 2020. The Bahamas Olympic Committee (BOC) fully supports the IOC in keeping the safety and well-being of athletes and the general public as the top priority.
Meanwhile, in The Bahamas, a 24-hour curfew is in effect, in an effort to arrest the transmission of the Coronavirus. We must all do our part to ensure that this goal becomes our reality. Maintaining social distancing is a small price to pay for saving the lives of others, especially those who are most vulnerable among us.
We encourage our athletes to remain focused on the Games, making the necessary adjustments for qualification events and the imminent Olympic Games. Let us remember that there are some battles that are won by the swift, but there are also battles that go to the ones who endure. The test for this time is not to the swift, but it will be won by those who practice discipline and patiently prepare for the prize ahead.
This appears to be a dark hour, but we live in the land of a rising sun. Athletes, let us lift up our head to the rising sun, and march on.
March on, Bahamaland!
Yours in Sports,
Bahamas Olympic Committee Secretariat
